MAREI POP UP with Attorney Julie Anderson: KCMO Source of Income Law

with... Attorney Julie Anderson

Kansas City Missouri's Source of Income Law went into effect in August . . . do you know how your standard operating procedure needs to change? Marketing, Talking, Forms, Screening and more - if you own or manage in KCMO you need to attend.

Kansas City Missouri's Source of Income Law has drastically changed how we manage our renters, potential renters, staff, and processes.

We have shared several events in the past few months to help get you up to speed . . . except they only go so far and we all still have questions:

First review our blog posts: Notes from Julie & KCRHA's Replay.

Second, read Julie's Brief on the Ordinance.

Third, join us at this Pop-Up on Zoom on October 15th, where Julie will address many of the questions that have been coming in to make sure we are all up to speed so we do not violate the KCMO Law or Federal Fair Housing . . . .

If you own rental property or manage rental property in Kansas City Missouri this is a must-attend event . . . if you can't attend, be sure to register so you can get the replay.

Even if you only have 1 property in Kansas City Missouri and the rest are in other cities, you need to attend as you may need to adjust your processes elsewhere.

We are making this event free to all members of MAREI, friends of MAREI, and their guests  . . . but you do need to register.

Click the button below and sign up.

We will send you the Zoom link to attend live and make sure you get a copy of the replay the next day.

 Some of the Questions

  • "I'm listing my first apartment since the ordinance changes in January. If someone asks if we accept vouchers we can't say no as I understand it - is that correct? Is it ok to say "we base our evaluation on credit score, income and references"
  • So these are regulations just for Kansas City Missouri - will they affect my other properties in say Gladstone or Prairie Village or Florida?
  • What if the landlord/PM has a policy stating they will not pay utilities for anyone?  Can we NOT pay utilities for Section 8?
  • What if you know your unit(s) are not up to section 8 standards and you’re unable financially to update to the Requirements needed to pass for sec 8?🤔 Is that verbiage allowable upfront ? Sucks ppl will fill out apps waste money then get denied all while landlord knows their unit won’t pass for sec 8.
