Why is it that so many of us think that to be a successful real estate investor that we need to do more and more deals, work all the time, to get the business up and running and then find that we HATE what we are doing?

It’s NOT because we’re lazy and don’t want to do the work, but sometimes we get so focused on DOING THE THING that we forget why we wanted to do the thing in the first place.

Most people get into real estate to create financial independence so they can spend their time doing what they want, when they want and how they want. 

Often, they just trade the job they had for a new job they don’t like any better.

Ian Reeves found himself right there a few years ago.  He was working hard and doing the deals, he had replaced his JOB, but things were not any better.

He stepped back, took a good hard look at his business and then took a drastic step backwards, to do less deals.  (He shared this with us at MAREI last year.)

So what happened?

Can you do fewer, more quality deals
and still make the same money.

If we are more selective in the houses we buy and the quality of rehab we do, can we make similar profits with less time and less stress?

We’ve been following Ian on Facebook and Instagram and based on all the deals he is sharing and the really nice after photos he is sharing, we think that he has finally found the right mix of Quality and Quantity for his fix and flip business.

Ian was struggling in a lot of areas when he was buying and rehabbing at volume

  • Just finding enough deals to meet his quota, perhaps having a set number goal had made him a motivated buyer.
  • Being motivated to buy, had him buying houses in areas he really didn’t want to be working.
  • With all those houses to get done, finding enough contractors and keeping them became very hard, so his hiring standards slipped.
  • Projects were stacking up, interest on the money was stacking up and the stress was building.

In short, life sucked, and things HAD to change.
