Virtual Online Meeting!
From Stacey Johnson-Cosby with KC Regional Housing Alliance
Important meeting date: Monday, Oct. 3rd at 10:30am Central Time on Zoom (link below). For several months, I’ve been working to get us a seat at the table with the National Association of Realtors (NAR), the largest trade association in the country with over 1.5 million members with the focus of protecting private property rights. We are at the next step, seeing what they are doing and the research & resources available to us as Housing Providers who have been negatively impacted in a major way—especially more & more lately. My next goal is to find a way to attach our movement and advocacy work as small-medium independent practitioners to them. It’s logical.
In May, I went to Washington, DC to the NAR mid-year legislative meetings to see what was being said & done about the horrible impact of the rental “tenant advocacy” movement on our businesses & the fast erosion of our private property rights. I was surprised to see that nothing was being said in the meetings that I attended until I went to the microphone to bring it up. Then, of course, the actual Realtor members understood and wanted to be engaged in an effort to stop the craziness. I mentioned that we started building a national coalition (National Housing Provider Coalition, like the one we have regionally) to give us a voice in the early days of the pandemic at the prompting of Kim Tucker. I never gave up, we just needed to find a path. This may be it.

I want NAR to see & hear us. Even if you are not a Realtor, will you please join us on Monday, 10/3? And, invite anyone else who needs to attend (wherever they live in the country), too. This first meeting is to hear what they are actually doing, their research & tools and to learn what they know. They are highly engaged, and as we know were directly a part of the Supreme Court ruling that ended the unconstitutional CDC Eviction Moratorium, thankfully. My question is: what’s next in the way of collaboration and action steps towards giving us a voice with an impact on policy. The renter groups have them.
There’s more work to do as Rent Control, Good Cause Eviction, Tenant Bill of Rights, Right to Counsel - are continually eroding private property rights & our ability to do business and provide for our families under the cover of “tenant protections.” Please help me make the point with your attendance at this meeting. We can schedule a follow up based on what we hear as I try to find a path. I’m kind of excited and hope that this is productive. Let me know if you are able to join us on Monday morning.
Stacey Johnson-Cosby is inviting you to a scheduled Zoom meeting.
